Sensex and Nifty Climb as US Jobs Data Lowers Rate Hike Expectations

Indian stock markets surged on Monday, buoyed by softer-than-expected U.S. employment data and declining crude oil prices, which combined to lift investor sentiment. The BSE Sensex rose by 472.77 points, or 0.66%, closing at 72,382.47, while the Nifty 50 index gained 133.80 points, or 0.60%, finishing the day at 22,555.75.

The rally was largely driven by the perception that weaker U.S. jobs figures could lead to a more measured approach to interest rate hikes by the U.S. Federal Reserve. This potential easing in monetary policy expectations contributed to a positive market outlook, helping stocks like ITC, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, and Larsen & Toubro to register gains.

Conversely, some stocks saw declines, including HCL Technologies, HDFC Bank, Sun Pharma, Infosys, and Asian Paints. Alongside the influence of U.S. employment data, falling crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading around $102.40 a barrel, alleviated some concerns over inflation, providing additional support to market sentiment.

As investors assess the current market dynamics, attention is increasingly turning towards domestic economic events, particularly the upcoming monetary policy decision by the Reserve Bank of India and the forthcoming corporate earnings season, both of which could further influence market trends.

In the broader Asian markets, reactions were mixed. Japan’s Nikkei 225 experienced a significant lift, rising over 2%, whereas Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index saw only modest gains by the end of the session.
