Google Expands AI Browsing Features in Chrome for Android Users in India

Google has rolled out its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, integrating AI-powered assistance directly within the Chrome browser. This update enhances user experience by enabling webpage summarization, seamless connection with Google services like Gmail and Calendar, and a variety of web-based tasks.

Gemini in Chrome acts as an AI assistant, providing features such as generating webpage summaries and images. Moreover, an advanced auto-browse feature is available for both desktop and Android devices, exclusively for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India. This feature empowers Gemini to autonomously navigate websites and perform tasks like comparing products, finding deals, booking tickets, and managing appointments.

This AI capability is designed to streamline complex, multi-step online activities that traditionally require users to switch between multiple webpages and complete various tasks manually. Google’s implementation of safety measures is crucial, given Gemini’s ability to interact with websites directly. The system is equipped to detect threats like prompt-injection attempts, and users may need to confirm sensitive actions before they are executed.

The extent of multi-step tasks users can perform with auto-browse is contingent upon their Google AI subscription level. Google AI Pro subscribers are allowed up to 20 multi-step requests daily, while Google AI Ultra subscribers enjoy a more generous limit of up to 200 requests per day.

Through this expansion, Google is enhancing the functionality of Chrome by providing more agentic AI capabilities, allowing users to engage with the web in a more interactive and task-oriented manner than merely posing questions to an AI.
