Viral doesn’t begin to describe what happened when the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer was released on March 17. Within four days, it had crossed one billion views — the first movie trailer in history to do so, according to WaveMetrix, which logged 1.1 billion total by Tuesday. The term “viral” barely scratches the surface of what Brand New Day’s trailer achieved.
The first-day performance of 718.6 million views shattered Deadpool & Wolverine’s record of 365 million from the Super Bowl in 2024. It also outpaced Spider-Man: No Way Home’s 355.5 million and Grand Theft Auto VI’s 475 million views in a day, two records that had previously seemed untouchable. Brand New Day redefined what a first-day trailer performance could look like.
The billion-view total within four days is a milestone unique to Brand New Day. Not one other film, game, streaming service, or media brand had crossed this mark before. The achievement establishes a new top tier of trailer performance that no previous standard had been able to define.
The film hits theatres on July 31, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Tom Holland leads a cast that includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Tramell Tillman, and Michael Mando. As Phase Six’s Spider-Man entry and a follow-up to the $1.9 billion No Way Home, it arrives with enormous expectations. Indian fans will see it in six languages.
The trailer’s emotional story — Peter Parker forgotten by everyone he loves, still choosing to be a hero — was a gut punch fans couldn’t stop sharing. Heartfelt alternate titles trended on social media. Brand New Day’s promotional journey is complete; the real event begins July 31.
