Opsio, a Swedish company specializing in cloud and artificial intelligence technologies, has introduced PrismIQ, an innovative automated visual inspection service aimed at enabling manufacturers to identify production defects in real time. The service, which is initially available in India, is expected to expand internationally in the near future. PrismIQ utilizes industrial cameras along with deep-learning models, which are specifically trained on each manufacturer’s products, to detect issues such as surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional variations, and assembly errors during production.
The system is designed to run on edge hardware that is directly installed on production lines, facilitating rapid processing of inspection results without relying solely on manual checks. Additionally, the data generated can be integrated with existing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to support automated sorting and decision-making processes on production lines. Opsio aims to address the challenges of manual inspection, particularly in high-speed manufacturing environments where checking each product can be challenging. PrismIQ’s active-learning system uses production data to continually refine its detection models.
In contrast to standalone vision software, PrismIQ is offered as a comprehensive service. Opsio manages all aspects of the setup, including camera, lens, and lighting configuration, model development and validation, integration with factory systems, and ongoing operations. The service also provides operator training, quality dashboards, and regular performance evaluations. According to Opsio, the implementation process from feasibility assessment to production deployment typically takes between eight to 12 weeks.
India was chosen for the initial launch due to its rapidly growing manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established presence in the country, which includes an AI Lab in Bengaluru dedicated to developing and testing applied artificial intelligence solutions for industrial applications. The technology itself is engineered from Opsio’s headquarters in Karlstad, Sweden. PrismIQ initially targets manufacturers in the automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors, beginning customer engagements with feasibility studies and proof-of-concept phases using the manufacturer’s own product samples.
