Pralhad Joshi, a Union Minister, has been appointed as India’s new Education Minister and has begun his role by reviewing significant educational programs and the rollout of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. After taking office at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi, he engaged with senior officials from the Departments of School Education and Higher Education to gain insight into the ministry’s current initiatives.
Joshi admitted that the education sector is a new area for him and expressed his intention to take the necessary time to thoroughly understand the ministry’s operations before providing detailed commentary. His focus, he noted, will be on ensuring continuity in major educational programs while familiarizing himself with the department’s functions.
He emphasized that his appointment was a responsibility entrusted to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting his commitment to understanding the intricacies of the department. This move comes following the acceptance of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation by President Droupadi Murmu, leading to Joshi’s additional portfolio assignment.
