Iran has emphasized the historical and enduring nature of its ties with India following a meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This engagement occurred on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. Highlighting the importance of this relationship, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei pointed out the significant cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi, particularly in the trade and economic sectors.
The discussions between the two leaders covered several key areas, most notably the Chabahar Port, which continues to be a pivotal element in the collaboration between India and Iran. Besides infrastructure, the dialogue also encompassed regional developments and joint efforts aimed at fostering lasting peace in the region. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged the sovereignty of nations in conducting their foreign policies. However, he cautioned against any actions that might facilitate Iran in circumventing U.S. sanctions, signaling the complex geopolitical dynamics at play.
