Delhi Metro’s Tech-Driven Operations Handle Record 82.4 Lakh During Bus Strike

The recent strike by private agency drivers working with the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has significantly impacted public transportation in Delhi, forcing commuters to rely heavily on the Delhi Metro. This shift resulted in the Delhi Metro achieving its highest-ever single-day passenger count on September 17, with over 8.24 million boardings, according to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

As thousands of buses were absent from the roads due to the ongoing strike, the burden on alternative public transport services intensified. To accommodate the surge in demand, the DMRC took proactive measures by increasing the number of train services. They added 20 extra train trips and deployed eight additional trains during peak hours to manage the increased passenger flow.

The DMRC, along with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), also enhanced efforts to ensure smooth passenger movement and maintain security across the metro network. These measures were crucial in managing the unprecedented number of commuters using the service, underscoring the metro’s vital role as a backbone of public transport in the Delhi-NCR region.

This record-breaking footfall highlights the Delhi Metro’s capacity to adapt and serve as a reliable transportation alternative during times of disruption. As the strike entered its fourth day, commuters faced limited options, emphasizing the metro’s importance in maintaining the city’s mobility and connectivity.
