Amid rising tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran, US President Donald Trump has stated his unawareness of any potential military strike against Iran in the coming days. This follows comments made by US Ambassador to Türkiye, Tom Barrack, who suggested the possibility of such a strike occurring as early as the weekend.
Speaking to reporters in Florida on Friday, Trump was asked about Barrack’s remarks and whether there had been any shift in the US position regarding military action before the midterm elections. Trump responded, “If that’s the case, I don’t know anything about that.”
Barrack’s comments during a Friday interview indicated the possibility of a US strike, but he also emphasized that President Trump remains open to diplomatic solutions. Discussions between the US and Iran have been ongoing for months, according to Barrack, who also clarified that Washington is not pursuing regime change in Iran. The focus, he added, is on addressing security concerns while maintaining the possibility of negotiations.
The situation has been further complicated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s calls for the removal of Iran’s clerical leadership, accusing Tehran of policies that threaten Israeli security. Netanyahu has stated that Israel will continue its efforts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
The conflicting statements from US officials have added to the uncertainty surrounding US policy toward Iran. As diplomatic efforts continue, there are growing concerns about the potential for military escalation in the Middle East.
