In a significant diplomatic engagement, India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, asserting that peace and tranquillity along the shared border are vital for the progression of bilateral relations. This meeting, marking the 25th round of talks between the special representatives of both nations, focused on advancing boundary delimitation, enhancing border management, and fostering cooperation across the frontier.
During the discussions, both sides positively assessed the progress in bilateral relations and explored methods to maintain stability along the Line of Actual Control. They reiterated their commitment to achieving a political settlement to the boundary dispute, emphasizing the importance of aligning this resolution with their long-term interests. The dialogue builds on the understanding reached in 2024 between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which aimed to ease tensions in the Ladakh sector and has since led to the resumption of people-to-people exchanges, the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, and border trade through designated routes.
Doval highlighted the gradual normalization of bilateral ties, attributing this progress to the maintenance of peace along the border. Meanwhile, China indicated that the boundary issue should be positioned within the broader context of their relationship. Although specific details about the actual demarcation of the disputed boundary were not disclosed, both countries agreed to continue negotiations and plan to hold the next round of special representative talks in India in 2027.
The meeting comes at a strategic time, ahead of the anticipated visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to India for the BRICS summit in September.
