The development of a new airport in Purulia district is set to significantly boost the region’s connectivity and economic prospects. Expected to enhance tourism and attract major investments, this initiative is a key part of the West Bengal government’s strategy to transform Purulia into a hub for industrial and infrastructural growth.
On September 28, the West Bengal government will formalize an agreement with the Central government under the UDAN scheme to establish the airport. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari confirmed that preparations for the airport have been completed, and the requisite license application has been submitted. The project has also involved discussions with representatives from civil aviation authorities.
The strategic placement of the airport is anticipated to breathe new life into Purulia’s tourism sector and provide a foundation for various industrial ventures. Several sectors are being targeted for investment, including defense, steel, cement, and solar energy, with the potential to draw investments of around ₹1 lakh crore over the next year.
By improving air connectivity, the airport will not only support local tourism but also encourage infrastructural development, thereby creating a conducive environment for businesses and investors. This development aligns with broader regional goals to elevate economic opportunities and enhance the quality of life for residents.
