Union Home Minister Amit Shah underscored the importance of Uttar Pradesh’s burgeoning defence manufacturing sector, stating that the BrahMos missiles produced in the state are a significant factor in India’s defense capabilities. Speaking at the UP International Trade Show 2026 in Greater Noida, Shah highlighted the investments flowing into the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, which encompasses nodes in Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, and Kanpur.
Shah detailed the advancements at the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow, which was inaugurated in May 2025. The facility focuses on the assembly, integration, and testing of the supersonic cruise missile, with its first batch dispatched in October 2025. This facility was established with an investment of approximately ₹300 crore, spanning nearly 200 acres, to boost indigenous defence production and support ancillary industries and skilled employment.
Amit Shah also pointed to the production of AK-203 assault rifles in Amethi as further evidence of the state’s expanding defence manufacturing capabilities. He emphasized that the improved law-and-order situation in Uttar Pradesh, along with its growing industrial base, is attracting substantial investment.
Highlighting the state’s economic strategies, Shah mentioned the ‘One District, One Product’ initiative, which aims to expand local industries and create more job opportunities for the youth in the region. The initiative is seen as a vital component in boosting employment and economic growth throughout the state.
The UP International Trade Show 2026, running from September 25 to 29, is a significant event that gathers manufacturers, MSMEs, exporters, artisans, startups, investors, and international buyers. It serves as a platform to showcase the state’s industrial capabilities and attract further investments.
